LG Optimus One Sells 1 Million Units In 40 Days

LG Android based handsets are not very popular. The plummeting sales and profits of the LG mobile division is a testimony to this fact. However, it looks like LG has met with some kind of success with the LG Optimus One. In a press release, LG just announced that they have managed to sell more than one million units of the Optimus One. Keeping in mind that the Optimus One still has not been launched globally, it sure is no easy task! LG_Optimus_One

The LG Optimus One is a low-end Android based phone. The handset has a 3.2-inch screen with HVGA (320×480) resolution. The phone is powered by a 600MHz processor and packs in 178MB of internal memory. The usual Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS with A-GPS, Compass, external memory card slot, FM radio and a 3.5mm jack are all present.

According to me, one major plus point of the Optimus One is that it runs on Android 2.2. LG is now expecting the Optimus One to be its first handset to breach the ten million mark in terms of sale.

LG’s New Flagship Android Phone Sports Tegra 2, 1080p Video

LG has been seeing a lot of sales for the LG Optimus One lately, with it selling about 1 million units since launch. It is now planning to launch a high end addition to the Optimus line up, and we have some details about the new phone.

It is codenamed the LG Star, and like the upcoming LG Optimus tablet, it will be powered by the Nvidia Tegra 2 platform. It will sport Android 2.2 Froyo, or even Android 2.3 Gingerbread by the time it launches. It will have a 4 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.

It will come with an 8 MP camera and can record 1080p HD video. It is supposed to sport the vanilla Android OS with no custom UI embellishments. It will also have a secondary camera for video calls, and will be powered by a 1500 mAh Li-ion battery.

Sprint Puts Palm Pre On Notice, EOL

The original Palm Pre, exclusive to Sprint, has been tagged as EOL (End of Life). The first device with WebOS, introduced as an effort to bring Palm back into the mobile business has been unavailable from the Sprint web store since early last week and is now being cleared out of distribution channels.

Sprint had U.S exclusivity for the entire duration of 2009 and broke their sales record – Tim Donahue, VP of Business Marketing for Sprint said We experienced our best one day of sales and single weekend sales for any phone we’ve launched in our history. That is quite an accomplishment for Palm (who were recently purchased by HP for $1.2B), as they only boast roughly 4.9% U.S marketshare.

RIM Kicks Kik Out Of App World

It should come as no surprise that Kik, a cross-platform messaging application that specifically lobbies as a replacement to Blackberry Messenger (BBM) has been pulled out of App World.

Kik currently has a user base of over 2 million users and is available on iOS, Android and Blackberry devices. It boasts real time textingthat features delivery, read and replied status notifications and is completely free of charge. The application was removed on Friday and RIM has not indicated the reason for the removal nor a timeline for re-introduction or approval of reinsertion into their online application store, App World.

Similar applications have been approved and are available for download, such as WhatsApp and PingChat. Whether this is a security/privacy concern or an attempt to stifle competition is unknown, only time will tell when RIM indicates what the reasoning was.
