Nokia has promised that the company will release firmware updates for all the latest Symbian^3 handsets including the Nokia N8, C7 and C6-01, which will address the major shortcomings with the Symbian UI.
Up until now, Nokia has released the PR 1.1 firmware update for all the above said handsets that hardly brought any visible changes to the end-user. However, it is the next update i.e. PR 2.0 that will bring a lot of changes with it including a new web browser and a new text-input system. The PR 2.0 update will also bring a new portrait QWERTY keyboard to the latest Symbian handsets from the Finnish giant.
Now, NitishKumar has managed to get his hands on the upcoming PR 2.0 firmware update for the Nokia C7. He managed to download the firmware through NaviFirm, which lists all the firmware Nokia is going to release or have already released to the public.
Some C7 owners over at DailyMobile.se forums have flashed the leaked PR 2.0 firmware on their handset. These users reported that the performance of the handset has improved considerably and Nokia has also enabled NFC with this firmware update. There is now an NFC settings option in the Settings Menu of the phone.
The Java version and the inbuilt web-browser have also been updated. The Kinetic scrolling and the home screen transitions are also smoother compared to PR 1.1 firmware. The new text-input system along with a new portrait QWERTY keyboard is also present.
The leaked firmware also installs many games on the handset including Fruit Ninja. Apparently, the battery life and the speaker sound quality also improved after flashing the PR 2.0 firmware.
In all probability, the PR 2.0 firmware update must be under final stages of testing for all the latest Symbian based handsets, and will be released within a couple of weeks from Nokia.
