Nokia has released a new firmware update each, for the Nokia 5228, 5230, 5233, 5235, 5236 and the 5238. The new v50.x.xxx firmware for all these handsets brings some major changes.
First and foremost, the update brings a new version of web-browser. This is the same web-browser which is used in Symbian Anna. The new browser should provide users with a much improved browsing experience. The browser also supports multiple tabs, and includes some nifty features like directly searching the web from the URL field, and support for non-Latin characters.
Apart from the web browser, the update will also bring support for emoticons. The phone will also display a new big clock with time and date, when the menu button is pressed, whilst the phone is locked. Swiping on the screen will then unlock the handset. Ovi Contacts will also be removed from the phone, post the update. There are also the usual performance and stability improvements, along with some bug-fixes.
The update is available via OTA as well as via NSU (Nokia Software Updater). Since the 52xx series phone support UDP (User Data Preservation), users don’t need to make a backup of their data before proceeding with the firmware update.
