Motorola Milestone Android 2.2 Update Again Delayed

One major complaint with the Android ecosystem is the delay in the release of Android OS updates by phone manufacturers. Google released the latest version of Android Gingerbread – to the public more than six weeks ago. Still, the only phone officially running Gingerbread is the Google branded Nexus S.

While the majority of the Android handset owners impatiently wait for their handset manufacturers to release the Android 2.3 update, some are still waiting for the Android 2.2 update.

One such handset is the Motorola Milestone. The Milestone is the European version of the highly popular and successful Motorola Droid but unlike the latter, the former never got its Android 2.2 update. The update was pushed back many times and last year, Motorola stated that they will release the Froyo update for the handset in early Q1 of 2011.

However, the company updated its Facebook page to inform Milestone owners that the update has again been delayed. The reason behind the delay has not been explained clearly by Motorola as well.

Nevertheless, the company does state that they will release the update before the end of current quarter. I wonder what is taking Motorola so long to release the Android 2.2 update for the Milestone. The original Droid was among the first few handsets to receive the Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 updates. There are not much hardware changes between the Droid and the Milestone as well.

And don’t I know it, been waiting ages for this. Luckily my contract expires in a few months, and I shall not be buying a motorola.

this is the last time i buy a motorola phone! i doubt that anyone at motorola could actually justify taking 5 months longer to update a phone that is at least 90% identical to the droid so they feed us the same incompetent babbling bullshit they have given us for the last 5 months

Oops, I might accidentally break my motorola phone and get an HTC one. This is nonsense. We’re going to be getting 2.2 when 2.3 is out, and 3.0 is halfway done? Motorola is way too slow to be enjoyable.

Don’t really understand why they still bother, damage is done. Last motorola device I’ll ever buy.

agree on one thing with all guys before me. that was my last motto ever. i will not be pissed on by my phone manufacturer… i did avoid Iphone for that obvious reason….

As another peeved of Moto customer I encourage all Milestone users to spread the word as wide as possible about horrible support… maybe with enough bad press they’ll get their act together. Hey if you’re going to be so incompetent at least leave the bootloader unlocked so the community can support itself… that would have spared you this self-inflicted customer hatred… plus you said you were developer focused.

I wish Motorola would read the comments on this page, and every other page concerning milestone updates. It is utterly ridiculous that they should take so long. The update had better bring some utterly phenomenally supremely awesome new features in order to have been worth the wait. and, anabi, i agree; they should at (very very very very very) least have left the bottloader unlocked.

i’ll never buy another motorola phone again. i’m sick of their crap.
