Motorola Droid 2 Global Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Rolling Out!

Hot on the heels of the Motorola Droid 2 Gingerbread update, Verizon and Motoogle have started rolling out the Gingerbread update for the Droid 2 Global as well. Motorola did release the Android 2.3 update for the Droid 2 Global a month ago, but later pulled it, citing the build needed more testing.

Now, after enough testing and tweaking, Motorola and Verizon have finally deemed the Gingerbread build to be worth rolling out to the public.

Apart from the usual Gingerbread goodies like enhanced copy & paste functionality, Download Manager app, and improvements in the performance and battery life department of the phone, the update also brings a new and improved version of Motorola ex-Blur. The whole Blur-y UI has got a new color scheme, along with a new and improved launcher.

There is also a plethora of bug fixes and new security features including device and SD card encryption. Verizon has also made full use of this opportunity by pre-loading more bloat ware on your D2: Global, including the latest version of Blockbuster, Accuweather, Amazon MP3 store and Verizon VCast.

Droid 2 Global owners can wait for Verizon to push the update to their handset, or they can manually pull the update from Verizon’s server by going to Settings->About Phone and tapping on the Check for Updates option.

I recommend D2 Global owners to manually pull the update from Verizon’s server. You never know when Verizon may pull the plug on the update again!

Thanks to the folks over at Droid-Life for the update!
