Google has always advertised Android as an open’ OS. The same stands true for the Nokia’s Maemo/MeeGo OS. Both the OS are very open towards hacking/exploiting and the modding community surely loves them due to this. Now, modders have even started porting the MeeGo OS from Nokia to some of the popular Android phones. These phones include the Nexus One, the HTC Desire and the Dell Streak.
The Nexus One leads the pack in terms of development pace and success. The MeeGo port to Google branded phone has been making a lot of progress and the developer @vgrade posted pictures of the OS running on his device. There are still many issues before Nexus One owners can dual-boot between the MeeGo OS and Android OS. The major obstacle in the development is the closed nature of Qualcomm’s 3D driver and this means the UI is not hardware accelerated. This results in very slow response time, high CPU usage etcetera.
