Once Google released the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich code to the public, it was just a matter of time before all major Android handset manufacturers announced a rough timeline as to when they will bring the latest version of Android to their handsets. After Motorola, Samsung and Sony, it is now LG which has announced via Facebook that it will be bringing the Ice Cream Sandwich update for its Optimus range of Android handsets beginning from Q2/Q3 of 2012. LG will start rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Optimus LTE, LG Prada 3.0, Optimus 2X, Optimus Sol, my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse during the Q2 of 2012.The LG Optimus 3D, Optimus Big, Optimus Q2 and the Optimus EX will get their share of Ice Cream Sandwich love in Q3 of 2012.
Compared to Samsung and Sony, who have promised to release the official Ice Cream Sandwich update for their high-end handsets by late Q1 or early Q2 of 2012, LG is pretty slow. Q3 means more than 8 months would have already passed since Google had announced Ice Cream Sandwich. If LG wants to reverse their mobile division’s balance sheet and profit margin, they better step up their game and release timely Android updates for their handsets.
