LG Optimus One To Get Android 2.3 Update

LG_Optimus_S1A couple of days ago, LG said that the LG Optimus One handset won’t be getting the Android 2.3 update because the minimum requirement to run Gingerbread is a 1GHz processor.

However, this piece of news was shot down by Android team’s Dan Morrill. He said that the hardware requirement for Android 2.3 is very similar to Android 2.2 a.k.a Froyo.

Now, LG has announced via a press release that the Optimus One handset from the Korean company will definitely get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update.

Here is what the company exactly said :

LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread. Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue.

It is really nice to see LG providing software support for their low-end Android based handsets. Kudos to LG!

  • I just got this phone and I love it. Great news!

  • Jimbo

The phone in the picture is not an Optimus One. Probably some other LG phone. But it looks similar. I’ve had it for a few weeks now and its great – can do everything I need with it and no probs at all.

This phone is great except for the fact that dust is starting to gather below my screen and a lot of people have reported similar problems with their units. The update to 2.3 is also nowhere in sight.

    • Jenni

I hope they push it soon..if it wasnt the update I just got lol

    • nabindra

im also worried about dust gathering below the screen ,day by day getting more so it is visible on locked screen .

My question was : Will the soon to be released update for the LGP500 ( Optimus One ) be an update to Android 2.3.4 ?

If LG won’t Upgrade Optimus One (P500) 2.2 Froyo to Android 2.3 Gingerbread then defiantly ill never BUY any LG Mobile Phones in Future and i’ll Suggest everyone to DON NOT BUY LG PHONES.(LG PRODUCTS ALSO)

  • t4M

I just talked to some LG person in Northern India..
As per him, there is no plan to upgrade to Android 2.3 for LG Optimus One P500 in India.
Only the Optimus 2x will have 2.3 as per present plans.

  • Martyn Hatton

After being told by LG that it would get an update I’m disappointed that they are now not. I’m sure this miss selling. not happy with LG at all.

  • Eric

Phone looks like an Optimus to me, which I just got… So whatever happened to this update? I’m not sure what’s new in 2.3, as I just started looking, but I am curious about if it’s coming to the Optimus (S in my case).

So their does seem to be a change of plan from LG regarding the Optimus One update from the previous Email ( see above ) i got from LG back In may.

Note: All the other pervious “So Say” release dates “Have Not” been given out by LG !!!.

So it would seem that the July thing ( and all the other pervious so say release dates )
are a big load of BS regarding the “Official” UK release of the 2.3 Gingerbread Update for the LG Optimus One.

Updating with “Unofficial” updates will invalidate your warranty/guarantee for your Phone .

    Your Choice !!!
