LG has just announced a new handset to its Optimus range of Android handsets, the Optimus Q2. The Q2 is the first Android phone from the Korean company to sport a four-row slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Compared to its predecessor, the Q, the Q2 is 1/10th of an inch thinner, and lighter by 0.35ounces. Under the hood, the Q2 is powered by slightly faster Tegra 2 SoC, which is running at 1.2GHz. The handset also packs 512MB of RAM. The 4-inch IPS display with WVGA (480×800) resolution, has a maximum brightness of 700nits. The usual Wi-Fi b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth,FM radio, microSD card slot and a bunch of sensors.

At the back of this thin QWERTY equipped phone is a 5MP camera with an LED Flash. A VGA camera in the front, accompanies the camera at the back of the phone. The handset runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, with LG’s copy of Samsung’s TouchWIZ UI running on top of it.

LG did not mention anything about the pricing of the handset, but the handset is expected to hit the Korean markets sometime next week.

Hopefully, the Q2 will not face the same software issues like random reboots, as its keyboard-less sibling, the Optimus 2X.
