Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 on iPhone and iPod Touch with redsn0w 0.9.4

Apple released a new update OS 3.1.3 with minor fixes, however, users who have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch will lose all their changes it they update to iPhone OS 3.1.3.

redsn0w 0.9.4 Jailbreaks iPhone OS 3.1.3

Hot on the heels of the new update, a jailbreaking software called redsn0w was updated to support iPhone OS 3.1.3 for iPhone and iPod Touch. The redsn0w team released a new update, version 0.9.4 to support jailbreaking and unlocking for iPhone OS 3.1.3.

However, unlocking is currently available for only iPhone 2G users, so it is advisable to iPhone 3G and 3GS users to stay away from the update for sometime, or else they will be carrier locked till an unlock jailbreak is available.

To jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 on an iPhone or iPod Touch, update iTunes to the latest version and update the firmware to OS 3.1.3. After that you can download redsn0w and follow the instructions listed out by Redmond Pie. redsn0w 0.9.4 is available as a download for both Windows and Mac OS X.

    Please help, I'm such an idiot!! My Iphone 3gs was runnig 3.1.2 and perfectly jailbroken…but…Like the Idiot that i am i hit the update button today, i wasn't even thinking nor have i been keeping track, like i should've been of the 3.1.3 release and as soon as i saw the screen go i had realised what i did, it was too late!! I've been on the dev blog and looked at downgrading and even attempted it which was looking promising until the Error Box popped up, and that didn't work. I know Dev team are on the case, seeing as they released redsnow the day before Apple released their 3.1.3FW, but not for 3gs.

    Is there any way i can get my NOW 3.1.3OS 3gs jailbroken or downgraded back to 3.1.2OS safely so i can jailbreak it with Blackra1n and if not, what sort of timescale do you think it may be before the Dev team or Geohot crack it???

      @Kalpesh – Unfortunately no, however you can jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 with redsn0w, but you will be carrier locked till an update is available.

          @llm – Carrier lock means that you cannot use any other SIM card other than the original carrier you got the iPhone from in addition to other locks like tethering etc

        i have the identical story as kalpesh.. except i have an ipod touch, 3g, 3.1.2 which was perfectly jailbroken (using blackrain) except i downloaded an app which caused my ipod to crash.. when i plugged it into itunes, it forced me to upgrade to 3.1.3… i also tried to downgrade to 3.1.2 except apple r not signing 3.1.2 anymore, so i got an error message… the short if it is….. CAN I JAILBREAK AN IPOD TOUCH 3G-MC-RUNNING 3.1.3 (7E18).. AND IF SO, WHAT PROGRAM DO I USE???

    Hey guys so my iPhone is currently Jailbroken to 3.1.2, but i wanted to update to 3.1.3 and rejailbreak. to do this so i just connect my iPhone to itunes and update my iPhone while its Jailbroken? or do i have to Unjailbreak then upgrade then Jailbreak

      @Chris – You do not need to unjailbreak it, just update to the new OS and jailbreak it again. However, iPhone 3G and 3GS on OS 3.1.3 does not support unlocking, so if you have unlocked the phone in 3.1.2 do not update to 3.1.3. If you do not mind using your current carrier and just want to jailbreak the phone you can do it with redsn0w 0.9.4

          Well tethering will be disabled, so you can jailbreak it and it will still work if you don't use a different carrier or can do without tethering for a while. Nevertheless, the OS 3.1.3 update does not fix anything big and does not even add new features so you can always wait for few more days.

            so i tried updating my phone as you said…and it stopped in safe mode…i tunes says it cant update it due to error 2002 and it kept my phone at the "connect itunes" screen and every time i try to reboot it it sends me there…im kind of freaking out because i keep trying to restore on itunes and it only gives me the option to restore and update and it does not let me update. please help me i dont know what to do

            hey um if it says connect to iTunes. Either try a different firmware file (download it off felixbrunes website).

            Or

            Use iRecovery and get it out of Recovery Mode but by the sound of what you said iRecovery might not help cause the update might have formatted everything and taking out of Recovery Mode and back to normal operation won't help since there's no OS. But how far did the update go before failing?

            Anyways to put it back to Recovery Mode just hold Home and connect it to your PC and keep holding Home until it goes to Recovery Mode (Connect to iTunes screen). DFU Mode might also work.

            I got it don't worry =D my phone was "Bricked" for a while so i started freaking then i restarted it like 16 times and plugged it back into my laptop then suddenly poof! worked! hooraah for caveman like persistence!

    My ipod touch 1g was running 3.1.2 and perfect jailbroken. I have updated to 3.1.3 today and have tried to jailbroke again using "redsn0w 0.9.4" following instructions. I managed to unlock and install Cydia. When I execute Cydia he went into update mode. Thereafter the Cydia disappeared from Ipod. The App Store icon also disappeared. Any hint of what may have gone wrong?

    SOS, so like a fool I accidently updated to version 3.1.3. on an ipod touch 3g and lost the jailbreak I had. Is there a break out for the 3rd. generation, I've only seen that it will work on the 1st. and 2nd. generation :( Any clue when a break will be available for the 3rd generation? I even tried restoring it back to the 3.1.2 version but no such luck. As well, I could not find the download for redsn0w 0.9.4, I thought I'd give it a try. I could only find 0.9.2.
    Any help would be much appreciated!

    I have an iPhone 3gs, with new bootrom. It has 3.1.3 firmware, and 05.12.01. Yes I know I am a wanker, but I didnt do it ;-)
    I only want to jailbreak! I dont care about unlock, I have the right sim, so its not needed.
    I tried the redsnow method, and it all worked fine except no cydia, and not jailbroken. Yes I selected install cydia.
    So any suggestions? Can this iPhone be JAILBROKEN only?

    i tired using the redsnow 0.9.4 on my itouch with the 3.1.2 firmware cause i have the 3.1.3 firmware on my MB model. when i run redsnow, i get up to where it uploads kernel but kernel never appears and get stuck with a blank screen. i tried using 3.1.3 and 3.1.1 but redsnow doesn't recongize them. but 3.0 it does and i get to the part kernal appear than it reboots but deletes the ipod program and gets stuck at the recovery mode. when that happens i have to restore from itunes. where did i go wrong.

    Please help, I have a 3G with 3.1.3 that has never been jailbroken before. I've tried redsn0w 0.9.3 and 0.9.4 and sn0wbreeze. Whenever I finish the program instructions and it says the rest will happen on my phone, the phone goes black and after 10-20 minutes it turns off. When I turn it back on, it is like nothing happed, no jailbreak no cydia. I've restored it back to original (just in case). I've made sure to follow all instructions properly. Any ideas?

Ok, so last night i was a complete IDIOT and decided to jailbreak my iphone 3G on 4.0.1 using the "Jailbreakme.com" method. then last night i freaked out and decided i wanted to reset it, however, when i went to settings, general, reset on my phone, i chose the second one from the top. it reset fine, but on the apple screen on the reboot my iPhone refuses to finish to finish booting. I have placed my phone in "Recovery Mode"(save-me mode) and have attemped to restore to factory settings via iTunes. every time it fails. Please Help-Stephen

    i have a jailbroken ipod touch 1st gen it is jailbroken 0n 3.12, if i update to 3.13 on itunes will i lose jailbreak and all my apps. i am new at this so any help would be great.
