Installing unsigned apps in Symbian OS has always been troublesome for everyone. Keith wrote an article back in 2008 to tackle this problem. Nokia, however, has disabled all TRK applications, making it harder to run unsigned apps. Here’s a short tutorial on how to run unsigned apps Symbian OS 9.1 and 9.2 :

  • You’ll need to download some files. For OS 9.1, click here and for OS 9.2 click here.
  • copy the installserver.exe file from the archive to c:\sys\bin\ on your phone using a third party explorer( like X-plore or Y-Browser).

Now you can install any signed or unsigned application. Moreover, you don’t need to worry about protected or unprotected UIDs.

An easier way for Nokia users:

This method works only for Nokia smartphones. Don’t try it on any other handset as you may end up corrupting the installer. Here’s what to do:

  • Download the zip file from here.
  • Open mobilesigner and select and sign the unsigned .sis file. A new file will be generated in the same folder. Try running the new file.

Note : Problems in signing may be resolved by the ‘Self-sign’ option

Kudos to Symbian-Freak for mobilesigner.
