HTC has finally made the shift to S-LCD display official in a press release. The company said that the S-LCD display will be used in a variety of phones including the HTC Desire and the Nexus One. S-LCD is the next generation of
LCD which offers better contrast ratio, better viewing angles and a lower power consumption.
HTC is experiencing high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays. The new SLCD display technology enables us to ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high-demand,said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. The SLCD displays provide consumers with a comparable visual experience to HTC’s current 3.7 inch displays with some additional benefits including battery performance.
The S-LCD displays are jointly manufactured by Samsung and Sony in Korea. Only phones equipped with 3.7-inch AMOLED display will be using the new S-LCDs, as they are in short supply. However, HTC did not mention in the press release the advantages (or disadvantages?) of S-LCD over AMOLED displays.
