HTC Hero Firmware OTA Update Released by HTC, No Android 2.1 Yet

HTC has released a new firmware update for HTC Hero which can be downloaded Over The Air (OTA) through Wi-Fi or a GPRS/3G connection.

However, don’t rejoice yet as this update will not bring the 2.1 update to Hero and will only include a Firmware over-the-air (FOTA) client update & YouTube player Update.

The new Build number after the update will be 2.73.405.93; 2.73.405.94 (Nordic) & 2.73.405.95 (Greece/ Ireland). So this means that the new updates will only be available in Nordic, Greece and Ireland.

Earlier this month HTC released an Android 2.1 update4 for Asian countries, so this update would mean that they are prepping more countries to get the Android 2.1 update.

HTC Hero device owners have been given secondary treatment for quite a while now, considering that it has received a Best Mobile Handset Award at GSMA, the updates to this device have been very slow, and now that is already being released for devices like and in future for Droid and HTC EVO, the wait to get Froyo on the Hero might turn out to be even longer.
