HTC Droid Eris To Get A Software Update Soon
By on July 13th, 2010

Droid-Life is reporting that the HTC Droid Eris is going to get a software update soon. The software update will not bring Froyo to the Eris. Instead the software update will improve the performance and enhance some features of the phone. A tipster at Droid-Life managed to get his hand on a leaked screenshot of the upcoming software update from Verizon.

The software update will improve the audio quality and audio control of the phone. It will also enhance the speed dial feature of the phone. The text, video and picture messaging ability of the phone will be improved as well. Other improvements include bluetooth pairing with a Jabra bluetooth headset. Also Droid users can now sync their Gmail contacts with their phone. The Weather/App widget of the HTC Sense UI has been improved as well.

The software update is expected to be rolled out to Droid Eris users at midnight on 17 July. It is nice to see HTC and Verizon rolling out a software update for such an old Android phone. Kudos to them!

I just spoke with Amber who is a tech support supervisor and was completely shut down on this problem (HTC eris 2.1 update). All of the well documented phone problems since the update are now happening to my wifes phone and our business is suffering because of it. How can we be compensated for business and customers already lost by my company due to this problem. When i asked who is responsible for the update coming on to the phone, she blamed HTC. My issue is that we bought our phone from verizon and pay money to verizon so why am i needing to call HTC? They are taking advantage of the convoluted mess of having three companies involved being google, HTC and Verizon. Getting the same useless phone as a replacement is not the answer to our problems as we continually lose money with our phone based business. My wife and I were both very happy customers at Verizon until this update and the response. We had a fair proposal that would make the situation right which Verizon will not agree to. She compared it to buying a tv at walmart and that any problems with the item must be taken up with the manufacturer outside of the warranty. I say that is apples and oranges since a phone is made up of the hardware, software and service and much different than a TV. It's like the cable company(verizon) selling you a tv then zapping it with something that breaks it. Please fix this VERIZON or you will hear from a lawyer soon and lose many customers!

The Eris was released at the end of November 2009 and has been out for eight months. It isn't an 'old' android phone, and we shouldn't be thankful to the damn devs for getting us a piddly-ass update when Froyo has been successfully ported to the Eris. I am furious that the phone I purchased less than two months ago is already EOL and that the motorola droid, which was released a good while before the eris IS getting 2.2 while my phone is not.

My husband and I both has this crappy phone and I HATE IT!!! I wish I would have just gotten a Blackberry. My husband my have lost a job over his phone not always working. I also don't even want to know how much business I've lost because of this phone. Verizon is worthless when it comes to helping. I wonder how many customers they have and will loose over this problem.

The new MR4 update is being leaked across the Web, however most sites offer no instructions for users on installation procedures. If you’d rather install the update yourself, rather than waiting for the OTA, you can download the update file and receive simple installation instructions here: http://eugeneorourke.com/blog/how-to-manually-ins
