HTC Desire To Get Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update
By on February 18th, 2011

HTC announced the successor to the Desire the Desire S at the recently concluded MWC 2011. Usually an Android handset manufacturer stops providing software support for an Android handset if its successor has been announced. However, it looks like HTC is going to continue providing software support for the original Desire.

CNET UK reports that one of HTC representatives in MWC confirmed that the Desire and its variants will get the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Desire’s successor the Desire S will ship with Android 2.3 on-board when it will launch sometime in the middle of the next quarter.

In all probability, the original Desire should get its Gingerbread update only after a month or so of the release of its successor. I guess the Gingerbread update for the Desire will drop-in only by early September or October, if there are no delays. Desire owners who have a carrier locked variant should expect the update to take another month or two before it hits their handsets.

Hopefully, the Gingerbread update for the handset will also include the latest version of the Sense UI from HTC and some other goodies.
