HTC Desire HD And Incredible S Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Rolling Out Now!

HTC has started rolling out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for two of their handsets – the Desire HD and the Incredible S.

The company has kept its promise of rolling out the Android 2.3 update within the first few weeks of its release for the Incredible S, and in early Q2 for the Desire HD.

The software update for the Desire HD carries the version number 2.36.405.5, while the Incredible S software update has the version number 2.12.405.7. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for both the handsets sis being rolled out as an OTA (Over-The-Air) one. Desire HD and Incredible S owners can manually check for the software update by going to Menu-> Settings-> About Phone and selecting the ‘Check for updates’ option.

The latest version of Android OS will bring with it a new keyboard, better copy-paste method, speed improvements and a new black theme. Sadly, the Gingerbread version being rolled out by HTC is Android 2.3.3. This means that Incredible S owners won’t be able to use the front-facing camera to make video calls via GTalk.

The Desire Z and the original Desire are the next in line to receive their Gingerbread love. The Android 2.3 updates for these handsets are expected to be rolled out by early June.
