Over the last couple of days, reported surfaced on the Internet that the recently released handset from HTC, the One S, was having some build quality issues. Users were complaining that the ceramic finish of the black One S was chipping off without any physical damage whatsoever. The news soon spread like fire on the Internet, and managed to garner HTC’s attention.
HTC has now confirmed that the black paint chipping off in certain One S handsets is an isolated handsets, and the company will be tweaking its manufacturing process to make sure that this problem does not affect other handsets. Below is the official statement from HTC -:
HTC is committed to delivering a high quality product and great experience for all our customers. There have been a few, isolated reports of this issue. The finish on the One S was laboratory tested as being at a hardness similar to ceramic. While that’s hard, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible to damage. Regardless, HTC takes quality very seriously and are providing all customers with an immediate fix and we are implementing some small changes to ensure customers do not experience this issue in the future.
For customers who have already purchased the One S, the “immediate fix” for them is to get the phone replaced within the DOA period. The DOA period varies from country to country but is usually 30 days in most regions of the world. If your One S is already more than a month old, which is tough considering the phone went on sale just 2 weeks ago, HTC will be happy to fix the phone under warranty.
