One of the new features in iOS4 includes multi-tasking, this feature is available only for iPhone 3GS and certain iPod Touch devices.

iOS4 Multitasking

To multitask with iOS4 on an iPhone or iPod Touch, just double-tap on the home button when an app is open, this will bring up new apps for you to choose from at the bottom of the screen.

You can scroll through all the open apps by shifting it to the right or left of the screen. Once you click on the app it will seamlessly switch between the current one and the one you chose to multitask with.

iOS4 Multitasking Close App

To close an open app, just press and hold the icon and click on the "-" symbol at the left corner, this will close the app altogether. Have fun multi-tasking on your new iOS4 on an iPhone or iPod Touch.

  4. Multitasking does not work on my 3rd gen ITouch after updating OS to 4.0. Double-clicking the home button simply returns me to the home screen as does a single-click, and my music shuts off. ANNOYING!!!
    Any help appreciated!

  5. When I double tap the home button while using any app, the app closes and the music menu comes up…is that normal?

    1. YOU DON HAVE IT…. Jailbreak if you want it so bad… go to jailbreakme.com on ipod browser follow instructions.. when finished open cydia, download winterboard… (the ipod will reboot) go back into cydia and go to categories/tweaks and search for ipod2g features… or download rockapp from cydia and get z toggle

for you "techy poeple" you can install open ssh and edit the plists.. this is how i did it..

go tino your ipod touch via ssh look in root/system/library/coreservices/springboard.app open N74AP.plist in a plist editor look for

      homescreen-wallpaper

      change false to true..
      then find

      multitasking

again change false to true.. (make sure to back up originals)

restart ipod and enjoy having multitasking at the expense of 15-20 percent of you battery life

      1. I just want to help you guys! Ipod touch 2g iOS 4 can be multitasking ,
edit the N72AP.plist. Use iFile fron cydia ang go to
        library/system/coreservises/springboard.app/N72AP.plist
        edit and
        Just add:

        multitasking

        and

        homescreen-wallpaper

this is the same with N82AP.plist on iPhone
Insert where you can find strings somthing like that on N72AP.plist

        just like this:

        h264-encoder

        telephony-maximum-generation

        magnetometer

        encrypted-data-partition

        armv7

        accessibility

  8. I have a 8gb itouch which suppose does not have muli tasking the version is upgraded to 4.0.2, double tapping the home button does not bring out a new menu either! but I have a problem with this … I charge my touch to it’s full 100% battery even if I do nothing the battery dies out in just a few hours!! I suspect there is multi tasking but I can’t check and I don’t know how to close the apps permanently…  can anyone help?
