Quite sometime back we had covered the Gmail for Mobiles application which was much more faster and sleeker than it’s predecessor, including several new features and performance improvements.

The notable features in the last version included the ability to manage multiple Gmail accounts including Google Apps account, the Gmail for Mobile 2.0 also included keyboard shortcuts, offline support and more.

Users could star the emails, archive them, report spam and so on, however the missing feature was the ability to label email, which many people rely on to manage their emails.

The Gmail for Mobile team have announced a new version of Gmail for mobiles which will allow users to label emails and allow users to use color-coded tags to manage their inbox, please not that this is not a application and users can access it pointing to Gmail.com in their mobile browsers.

To label an email, select a message then tap ‘Label as…" from the drop-down menu on the Floaty Bar. In the pop-up menu, select the label(s) you would like to use and tap ‘Apply’. Please note, you can add and remove existing labels to your emails in Gmail for mobile, but labels can only be created, renamed and deleted in the desktop version.

This feature is available for only Android powered mobile phones and the iPhone, support for Symbian based devices and other mobile OS will be coming shortly, hopefully the Gmail mobile team will also push this feature in the Gmail 2.0 app for mobiles.
