Forrester: Mobile App Internet Recasts The Software And Services Landscape
By on August 31st, 2011

App Internet is a phenomenon that Forrester defines as “specialized local apps running in conjunction with cloud-based services” across smartphones, tablets, and other devices. A few weeks ago, I gathered a few insights on the same by Ellen Daley, Vice President at Forrester at the NASSCOM EMERGEOUT Conclave 2011.

The explosion of app innovation that started on the iPhone and then spread to Android devices and tablets will continue to drive tech industry innovation and have far-reaching pricing and go-to-market implications for software and services providers.

The App Internet is an application architecture of native apps on a range of smart mobile devices, cars, televisions, and appliances linked to a broad array of cloud-based services to provide a optimized, context-rich experience anytime, anywhere…

- Ellen Daley, Forrester

The App Internet market is big and growing and by 2015 would lead to $37 billion market for apps and $13.2 billion market for app services. App Internet will convert predominantly search behaviors to a subscription channel model.

App Internet

The development of this mobile app Internet with hybrid local and cloud-supported applications is touted to not only foster huge levels of innovation but also open up new services opportunities around the creation and management of these B2C, B2B, and B2E apps. It will also change the way software is priced and designed.
