The 5-inch phone and tablet crossover from Dell the Streak was supposed to get its Android 2.2 update by the end of December. Today, Dell has officially stated that their target Android 2.2 delivery date is way before December 31st. However, due to this Dell won’t be working on any more Android 2.1 based firmware for the Streak and will also stop pushing Android 2.1 updates to additional customers.

The Dell Streak was originally launched in the United States with Android 1.6 onboard. Dell had stated that the phone-cum-tablet crossover will directly get the Android 2.2 update in the States and skip the Android 2.1 update. A leaked Android 2.1 U.K build of the Dell Streak has been floating around on the Internet for many days which allows Streak owners in the United States  to enjoy Android 2.1 on their device.

Here is the official statement from Dell itself.
