BlackBerry Curve 9220 Launched In India For Rs.10,990

Research-In-Motion (RIM) recently launched the low-end BlackBerry Curve 9220 smartphone in India. The complete specs and pics of this device was already leaked last month. This handset is aimed at emerging markets such as India. It comes with a 2.4 inch TFT display, QWERTY keyboard, 2 megapixel camera and much more. The BlackBerry Curve 9220 offers the longest lasting battery life yet in a BlackBerry Curve model.

“India is a very important market for RIM and we are extremely proud and excited to officially unveil and launch the new BlackBerry Curve 9220 for the first time here in India,” said Carlo Chiarello, SVP, Smartphone Business at Research In Motion.

“The new BlackBerry Curve 9220 offers a unique mobile experience that young Indians will love thanks to its affordable pricing and unmatched messaging and social connectivity features,” said Sunil Dutt, Managing Director for India at RIM.

BlackBerry Curve 9220 features a 2.44 inch TFT QVGA display, sporting a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, BlackBerry 7.1 Operating System, full QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad, 2 megapixel camera with 5X digital zoom, VGA video recording, 3G Connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and more.

It also comes with a 3.5mm headset jack, Stereo FM radio with RDS, 512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM, MicroSD card slot, 32 GB expandable memory, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, microUSB 2.0, up to 28 hrs of music playback time, up to 432 hrs of stand-by time, up to 7 hrs of talk-time and a 1450 mAh battery.

RIM offers a selection of apps from BlackBerry App World worth Rs.2500 for free including the Pencil Camera, Photo Studio Pro, Horoscope Oracle – Follow Your Lucky Stars, Drive Safely Pro and Ultimate Cricket. BlackBerry Curve 9220 customers can download these apps until June 30, 2012. RIM will also includes a wide range of apps that will roll out in a phased manner.

This handset measures 109 x 60 x 12.7 mm and weighs 102 grams. BlackBerry Curve 9220 will be available in 4 different colors – Black, Fuchsia Pink, Pure White and Teal Blue. This handset features a dedicated BBM key as well as popular social networking apps such as Facebook for BlackBerry and Twitter for BlackBerry. BlackBerry Curve 9220 comes with a price-tag of Rs.10,990 (approx.$210).
