AT&T’s Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.1 Update Rolling Out Now

Sony Ericsson rolled out the Android 2.1 Éclair update for the Xperia X10, X10 Mini and the Mini Pro back in November last year.

Now, nearly 6 months later, AT&T and Sony Ericsson have finally started rolling out the Android 2.1 update for the AT&T branded X10′s in the United States. Along with the bump in the Android OS version, X10 owners will also get 720p HD video recording, dual-touch support, increased home screens, face detection in video recording and continuous autofocus.

The Sony Ericsson Product Blog states that they couldn’t be more excitedabout releasing this update to the end user. I wonder what are they so excited about. All the popular handsets from HTC and Samsung are receiving the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, and Sony Ericsson is getting excited on releasing the obsolete Android 2.1 update for the X10.

However, X10 owners in the United States should not blame Sony Ericsson for this. AT&T is the reason behind this delay in the Android 2.1 update. Also, thanks to AT&T, X10 owners in the United States will never get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update which Sony Ericsson will release sometime in Q3 of this year.

X10 owners in the U.S. should head over to this link to get the update for their handset.

2.1 came out in Europe last year for the X10. We are expecting 2.3 as of sony ericsson’s blog some point in the near future. Why are US carriers so far behind?
