By on October 11th, 2011

Up until the beginning of this month, AT&T had released 14 new Android phones under their network since the beginning of this year. Today, the company has announced five new Droid phones, taking its tally of Android phones in 2011 to 19.

First and foremost, the company announced the Motorola ATRIX 2. The original Atrix was released at the beginning of this year at CES 2011, and was among the first phones with a Tegra 2 SoC. Its successor also sports a 1GHz dual-core SoC of unknown manufacturer, and comes with 1GB of RAM. The Atrix 2 now sports a bigger 4.3-inch screen with qHD (960×640) resolution, which thankfully is not PenTile.

Other key features of the Atrix 2 includes 8GB of internal memory, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS with A-GPS, mini-HDMI port, On-Device Encryption, Enhanced Exchange ActiveSync, IPSec VPN, and WebTop support. At the back of the Atrix 2 is an 8MP camera which is capable of recording videos in 1080p HD resolution, accompanied by a front-facing camera of unknown resolution. The handset also supports AT&T’s fake 4G’ network HSPA+ 21Mbps.

Along with the Atrix 2, the company also announced the Captivate Glide. The Captivate Glide is powered by a 1GHz Tegra 2 SoC, packs 1GB of RAM along with 8GB of internal memory and sports a 4-inch Super-AMOLED screen with WVGA (480×800) resolution. The Glide has an 8MP camera with a front-facing 1.3MP as well. The handset is also capable of recording and playing back 1080p videos. The usual array of connectivity features including support for HSPA+ 21Mbps is also present. The Glide also has some enhanced security features like Device and SD card encryption, VPN support, MDM, and Enhanced Exchange ActiveSync.

Both the Atrix 2 and the Glide run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is going to get stale by the end of this month.

The other three Droids announced by AT&T are the Samsung DoubleTime, Pantech Pocket and AT&T Avail. Interested readers can find the specifications of these handsets here.
