Sony Ericsson definitely didn’t want to be left out. With Nokia following Apple’s App store and gaining developers confidence, Sony Ericsson decided to jump into the wagon, too.

It was smart of Sony Ericsson to bundle the service with its own platform used for distributing Music and other multimedia, PlayNowArena [2]. This PlayNowArena will soon be going live this month with applications included in it. Initially this service will be available in 13 countries and 38 devices will be supporting it.

Developers can start submitting their applications running on java and symbian from 1st July. It might later also support android [3] platform. Sony Ericsson’s PlayNowArena is well equipped with a vast variety of billing options, so it might not be difficult for Sony Ericsson, the developers and the users to make the transition. Though, its yet unclear when the users might get access to download the applications.
