Android’s growth as a mobile OS has truly been stellar. Rarely has a product in any field seen such a tremendous growth in such a short time. In fact, back in June, Andy Rubin announced that more than 500,000 Android devices are being activated everyday.
However, rumors were floating around on the Internet that Android’s growth has stalled, and now its Apple’s iOS which is helping the mobile industry grow.
Today, Andy Rubin busted all these rumors by posting on Google+ that more than 700,000 Android devices are activated daily! And no, resetting or re-flashing a custom ROM on your Android handset does not mean you are re-activating it.
Below is what Andy Rubin said about “activations” -:
…and for those wondering, we count each device only once (ie, we don’t count re-sold devices), and “activations” means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.
With Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy Nexus now available in the United States and other regions of the world, I am sure the number of Android device activations is going to soar higher than ever now.
