Most of the Android smartphones lanched in the Q1 of 2011 runs on the old Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System. Manufacturers have already promised the Android 2.3 updates for these devices, but haven’t released it yet. But we have a great news for the AT&T customers, who has purchased an Android phone launched in 2011. AT&T recently announced that, the company will roll out the much-awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for all its post-paid Android smartphones launched in 2011.
AT&T has already rolled out the Android 2.3 update for the Motorola ATRIX 4G smartphones. Other AT&T smartphones to receive the latest Android update are HTC Inspire 4G, LG Phoenix, Pantech Crossover, Samsung Captivate 4G and Samsung Infuse 4G. AT&T has also announced that, the Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S variant for AT&T) owners will also be able to upgrade their phones to Gingerbread.
AT&T also mentioned that, the delivery methods will vary by device. Most of the times, the update will be delivered Over-The-Air (OTA), however in some cases, you will need to install the update via. Wi-Fi or connect the phone to a PC. Next month, HTC Inspire 4G users will be notified that the update is available and can be downloaded when connected to a Wi-Fi network.
