Reading the blog post by Marissa Mayer, the VP of Search Products & User Experience left us a bit confused at start, it compelled us to read the entire article to understand what it meant.

The title of the post said “What comes next in this series? 13, 33, 53, 61, 37, 28…” which led us to believe it was some sort of cryptic message they wanted to send across, but nevertheless reading the entire article did away with most of the confusion. The article talks about how a user was sending Google numbers in his email messages, the numbers signified the number of words each Google home page change in the past, and how it increased from 13 words in 1999 to 61 in next few years.

The message from the post was that Google wanted to put in a change without changing the current number of words which stand at 28.

Turns out that Google made a minor change to their home page removing the word Google and replacing it with a link to the word Privacy, which details Google’s privacy policy.

So what do they achieve with this? Well for one they will not get any cryptic messages from users to tell them how they changed the number of words on their home page, and two users will have easy access to the privacy policy Google has without having to actually Google Search for it. Smart.
