Vodafone finally launched their 3G services in India. The Vodafone 3G will be first available for customers in the Uttar Pradesh circle. Tata Docomo and Reliance Communication already launched 3G last year. Later, Aircel and Airtel joined the bandwagon and launched their 3G earlier this year. Vodafone 3G services will be first launched in the cities of Lucknow and Kanpur in the first phase, followed by Allahabad and Varanasi in the next month and later it will be available in remaining towns of the Uttar Pradesh circle.
“Vodafone is the largest operator in UP (E) with about 13 million subscribers. The company is offering its subscribers free 3G services till April 10 and the 3G tariff and packages for it would be announced later. We have the largest EDGE enabled cell sites in the circle numbering 8,200 and we only need to put 3G antennae and some additional gadgets for 3G. The Vodafone 3G services will give its customers a faster, smarter and better mobile experience with internet access at speeds up to 21.1 Mbps,said Ravi Santhanam, Vodafone East UP chief operations officer.
Vodafone had grabbed 3G license for 9 circles Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai & Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra & Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (East) and West Bengal. Vodafone is expected to launch 3G services in the remaining circles, by the end of this month. Vodafone selected Nokia Siemens to manage its 3G HSPA network in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, UP(East), Rest of Bengal and Haryana circle. While the company selected Ericsson to provide 3G HSPA services in the remaining circles.
Currently, Vodafone users can access 3G services on 2G rates. It means that you will get 2GB data for just Rs.98. This offer is valid only till April 10th for both prepaid and postpaid customers.
