Airtel Launches India’s First 4G Service In Kolkata

Last year, Airtel launched its 3G services in India. Now, within a year, the company went ahead and launched the India’s first 4G service. Tata Docomo was the first private operator to launch its 3G services in India. However, this year Airtel became the first private operator to launch its 4G services. Airtel’s 4G services are currently available only for the subscribers living in the Kolkata circle.

Airtel’s 4G (TD-LTE) network was launched by Mr. Kapil Sibal, Hon’ble Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India. With this launch, India joins the most advanced telecom markets in the world and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the country’s telecom success story.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharti Airtel said,

“Today’s launch is a major milestone for India and Airtel. Over the past 15 years Airtel has been at the forefront of India’s telecom revolution and has set the technology trends in India by aligning with the global standards. We are delighted to now provide leadership in setting the technology standard for 4G services in India by introducing the cutting edge TD-LTE. Back in 2010, Airtel won BWA license spectrum in Kolkata, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai) circles. The operator is currently working towards rolling out the 4G LTE services in circles other than Kolkata. Airtel is also one of the founding members of the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) which was launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2011.

Airtel 4G offers rich content along with superfast access to High Definition (HD) videos, multiple chatting, instant uploading of photos and so on. Currently, Airtel offers 3 different 4G plans starting at Rs.999 for 6 GB of free data, going up to Rs.1,999 for 18 GB of free data usage. HTC One X Launched In India For Rs.37,899

HTC recently launched the much-awaited HTC One X in India. This handset comes with a 4.7 inch Super LCD touchscreen display as well as a 1.5 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 Quad-Core processor. Idea Announces The Unlimited BBM Plan For Just Rs.99

Earlier this year, Vodafone and Airtel launched the “Only BBM Plan” for its pre-paid and postpaid subscribers at an affordable price of Rs.129. As the name suggest, the only BBM Plan allows the BlackBerry users to use unlimited BBM service without burning a hole in their pocket. BlackBerry smartphones are not only used by professionals, but they are also used by students in India. Most of them does not need the BlackBerry Enterprise services, hence paying around Rs.600 only for the use of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) was not the perfect solution.

Last year, Tata Indicom also launched the BlackBerry messaging services(MailLite) and BlackBerry Internet Service starting at Rs.99 and Rs.199 respectively. Samsung Galaxy Tab 680 (Galaxy Tab 7.7) Now Available In India For Rs 33,751!

Samsung had announced the Galaxy Tab 7.7 in the second half of 2011. However, the company did not announce anything about the availability of the tablet, and now after quite a few months of its announcements, the tablet has started popping up in the retail stores of various regions of the world.

The company has also released the Galaxy Tab 7.7 in India, albeit with a different name – Galaxy Tab 680. The tablet is already available for purchase at the popular Indian e-retailer, Flipkart, for Rs 33,751.

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 (680) is the first tablet from Samsung to pack in a Super-AMOLED Plus screen. Internally, the tablet is powered by the blazing fast Exynos 4210 SoC, clocked at 1.4GHz, and an ARM Mali-400MP GPU. There is also 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory, which can be increased via the microSD card slot. While the Tab runs on Honeycomb out of the box, the performance of the tablet is surprisingly good. In fact, early reviews suggest that the tablet is as smooth as the Asus Transformer Prime running Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Tab 680 comes with Wi-Fi as well as 3G connectivity. In fact, users can also use the tablet to make phone calls! All other usual sensors and connectivity features are also present, including a 3MP camera at the back and a 2MP camera in the front.
