India isn’t known for its internet connection speeds. However, Airtel seems to be determined to shake things up. After doubling the connection speed for all subscribers, it has now announced that it will be offering 50 MBps broadband connections.
Initially this option will be available in select few locations in Delhi and Gurgaon. It will later be rolled out in Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.
These plans will not come cheap though. The 50 MBps plan will cost a whopping Rs. 8,999 while a comparatively slower 30 MBps plan will cost Rs. 7,999.
“We are delighted to introduce 50 mbps speed — the fastest, wired broadband service. This ultra-fast broadband connection will allow customers, the convenience to download songs in seconds and full length feature films in less than three minutes”, said Bharti Airtel Joint President (Telemedia Services) K Srinivas.
Like almost all high-speed internet connections available in India, Airtel’s newest offering is also capped. Both of the aforementioned plans have a data cap of 200 GB. This may seem huge, but it actually is not. Do you really want to pay nine thousand bucks and be restricted to a little more than 6.5 GB of data transfer per day?
