Aircel Launches 3G Services In Chennai

Last month, we posted that Aircel will soon launch its 3G services in India. And now, Aircel finally launched its 3G services in Chennai. Aircel has won 3G license for 13 telecom circles in India Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, Kerala, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh (East), West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Orissa, Assam and North East. Currently, the Aircel 3G services are launched only in Chennai circle and it will be soon launched in other telecom circles in the coming months.

Gurdeep Singh, COO, Aircel, who launched the services said, We are excited about 3G, as we see it as something that will begin to transform our lives in many ways. The youth comprise over 50 percent of the country’s population and are among active internet users and also avid users of Facebook, YouTube and other social networking sites. The launch of 3G services on Aircel will address the high speed digital needs of the consumers thus unleashing the power of the Internet further creating opportunities for education, employment, engagement and entertainment which will empower the consumers and impact their Lifestyle.

Aircel is currently offering free trial of its 3G services. Both prepaid and postpaid users will get 250 MB data and 50 minutes of video calling. Beyond free usage, customers will be charged data at 3p/10kb and video calls will be charged at Rs.3/min. To try 3G services on your Aircel number, just SMS “TRY 3G” to 121.

The Aircel 3G trial offer will be available only from Feb 22 to Feb 27. We will soon post the Aircel 3G tariff. Even Idea is expected to launch its 3G services soon in India. Stay tuned for more updates.
