Converticon is a web based app created by Punk Labs, which helps you convert an image file (png/jpeg/jpg/gif) to an icon file (.ico) . You can use this icon file as a folder (or drive) image or as your website favicon.
1. Go to Converticon homepage and press the Get Startedbutton. You will be prompted to select an image. Locate it on your hard drive and then open it.
2. The selected image will be shown in the resulting page. Press “Export” button.
3. Now you will be redirected to the Export Options page. You can select the size of the resulting icon file here. Try to select the size depending on your need i.e., if you are trying to create a favicon for your blog or website go for the sizes 24X24, 32X32 or 16X16 and if you are trying to create an icon for your drive try a bigger size say 256X256 or 128X128. After you are finished selecting the size of the icon file, press the “Save As” button and select a place on your hard disk where you want to save the file.
Now you can use the saved file for the purpose you created it. I’ve created one for a folder on the desktop. Check out how it looks.
Icon files are often used on the Windows platform. Play with this online tool to customize the icons of your Windows drives and folders. If you are a web-master and have been longing for a customized favicon for your website, this is the tool for you. There are some minor errors in this app. It won’t display any confirmation after the .ico file is saved, instead it will take you back to step 2 (described above) . It also lets you select multiple sizes for the resulting icon file in the Export Options page, but only generates a file of a single selection (selected randomly). If the flaws (mentioned before) can be ignored, this tool is really handy in creating icon files.
