How To Open SKV Files?

SKV files or semicolon separated value which are similar to CSV files (comma separated values), both of these files can easily be opened and viewed using a text editor.

However when you view it using a text editor you will see the raw data instead of columned data, which you can view by opening the file in Microsoft Excel, however if you do not have a Microsoft excel installed you can still open and view the file with a small   called ViewSKV.

Once you download the utility extract it to any folder and use it to open the SKV file, the best part about this software is that it will allow you view the data in column format, something which you cannot do in a plain text editor.

6 Tools for Anonymous Torrenting Options

When you are surfing on the web, all your browsing history and activities can be tracked by anyone on the internet. Most of the hackers and others always will be on a look out for vulnerable connections. When you are downloading something from the web, there is a probability for others to know your computers IP address, system information etc., and use this information to launch an attack.

To avoid these attacks, you can hide your IP address or fool the hackers with a false IP address. This is done by using the re-routing process such that all your downloads are done using a remote server or by using proxies, this is called “Anonymous Torrenting”.

Here in are some of the tools that enable you to do anonymous torrenting easily without revealing any information about your computer. Both the recipient and the transmitter do not know each other.

1) BitBlinder

To use this application for free first you need to provide small amount of data. Everyone will provide a small amount of data to the system such that everyone’s data is anonymized in this system. When you request for certain data on the network, it is transmitted to the target website passing through number of peers such that one can see the address of the next peer. So, no one knows about the target website or about your information. By this way , you can keep your privacy and protect your identity at the same time.

2) Furk.net

Using this service, you can get a direct download link of the file that you want to download. If you have torrent files, then copy the torrent file location and past the address on Furk.net. Then, the servers of the Furk.net will download the file for you and also acts as proxy servers to protect your privacy and identity. You will get a direct download link where-in you can download the file as a HTTP file by this way you can override the ISP block and with the SSL encrypted links you can bypass the content filtering. You can also search all the Bittorrent sites using the Meta search engine in this site.

3) TorrentPrivacy

TorrentPrivacy will do more than just acting as a proxy. It will encrypt all the Bittorrent traffic using the SSH protocol such that no one can know what you are doing. Your IP is also concealed by rerouting your connection to the servers in Netherland, USA or Canada such that you will be appearing as a user from any of these countries and your original identity is protected. As your IP and identity is concealed, no one can legally sue you and even the ISP cannot monitor your actions. SSH protocol uses 128 bit encryption, it is highly impossible for someone to decrypt the data.

4) I2P installer

This application not only allows you to do anonymous torrenting but also protects your browsing history and IP address from others. Just install this application on your computer and if you are using   Firefox web browser then go to Tools>Options>Advanced>Network>settings in that under the connections select the manual Proxy configuration and then add localhost as HTTP proxy and add port as 4444, same applies to IE and Opera.   Once you are done, you continue with the torrents like you do usually but this time anonymously.

5) Offsystem- Anonymous Torrent Download

Offsystem acts like an online hard disk allowing you can upload or download   torrent files from your computer anonymously. Offsystem adds more number of peer-to-peer connections to make your identity and IP address almost   impossible to track. The network of Offsystem is spread across the world, you can upload a file onto Offsystem from one corner of the world and download the same file from another corner without any problem and that too anonymously!.

6) Nodezilla

This is a P2p Anonymous file sharing network that enables you to share files on various torrents while hiding your IP and system information on the network. You may be connected to the target site through any of the peers on the network. It also provides you with cache feature so that you can gain access to the information quickly.

How to Add Custom Send To Links to Google Reader?

recently added new features that allowed users to easily share content with others using a send to links, however the feature does not limit users and also allows them to add custom send to links.

google_reader_send_to_options

Here is a short tutorial on how you can add custom send to links to Google Reader.

Step 1: Go to Google Reader Settings page and click on the Send to tab.

google_reader_add_send_to

Step 2: At the bottom of the page click on Create a custom link button, you will see text boxes where you can enter the details.

Step 3: In the Name field enter the name you want the send to option to be displayed as. In the URL textbox add the URL of the site you want to send the content to and in the Icon URL add the URL of the icon that you want to associate with the send to option.

Several social networking sites require you to provide with title and URL while submitting content, to add them to the send to link you can make use of substitutions provided by Google Reader.

For example if the link to download a webpage as a is http://savepageaspdf.pdfonline.com/pdfonline/pdfonline.asp?cURL=http://techie-buzz.com

You can use a substitution called {$url} like it is shown in the example below.

http://savepageaspdf.pdfonline.com/pdfonline/pdfonline.asp?cURL=${url}

You can also use ${source} for the source of the article, ${title} for the title of the article and ${short-url} which is a shortened URL that will redirect to the webpage.

Step 4: Once you have added the details click on the save button and the send to option should be available when you go back to Google Reader.

Definitely useful and worth using, we will come up with a of Send to options that you can use to add to your account.

How to Automatically Wake up your System from Hibernation and perform Some task

Consider a situation: Everyday you have a list of files or torrents to download at 2 AM. To do that you have to start your computer at 2 AM, download the files and then shutdown your computer. All of this requires manual intervention from your end and you might even be sleeping and miss downloading the files.

However you can wake up your computer from   hibernation, perform a particular task and then shutdown your computer automatically. So if you have a large number of movie or torrent downloads or some scheduled tasks to perform on a daily basis you can automate the job  using a application.

To perform the scheduled task by waking up your computer all you need is  WakeupOnStandby. This   Freeware (windows only) can wake up your system from hibernation and automatically perform a number of tasks and then shutdown your system. (Note : You can also set up a timer for automatic shutdown or a Sleep timer for your computer)

How I use Wake up on Standby and Save Internet Bandwidth

The internet plan that I am using offers free unlimited download between 2AM – 8 AM. But most of the days I sleep early.

But guess what?   My computer wakes up automatically at 2 AM every night , downloads all the stuff that I had accumulated over the day and when the download is complete shuts down the system. When I wake up in the morning I have all my files in my downloads folder ready   to be used.

This process saves me time, Internet bandwidth and above all allows me to have a sound sleep without worrying about the downloads and other scheduled tasks.

Other features of Wake up on Standby:

The above method is just a special case of using this application .Here are some more useful features   that might be of your interest :

– Can be used to turn off, standby or hibernate your system after a specified time interval.

– Can run a file, program or open a webpage at a specified time even if your system is running. So if you check your email everyday at 5 AM just add a scheduled task in wake up on standby and forget about it.

– Can turn the Monitor on and hold off the screensaver during the waiting time that you specify.

– Can be used to repair your LAN or Internet connections upon waking up.

– It can also be executed from the command line without requiring   any user to interact with it. You can also create a batch file for this application and use it later.

Wake Up on stand by works in Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista. Do you know any other application that can perform a similar job or even better? I would love to hear from you in the comments.

How To Remotely Control Your PC Using Twitter

There is often a need to shutdown, restart or log-off your computer while you are away from your desk. There are a lot of softwares that allow you to do that by tweaking network settings and playing with internet configurations. Take my word, there is simply no need to use any of those because the application you should be really using is TweetMyPC.

As the name suggests, TweetMyPC lets you communicate with your computer by simply sending a tweet. Here’s how it works:

Download TweetMyPC from here.

During the installation you will be asked to provide your Twitter credentials.

Once you do that, TweetMyPC will check for your tweets every 1 minute and will act accordingly when it receives a command. So whenever you sendout a tweet shutdown, your computer will indeed shutdown. Once the command is executed, you will receive a confirmation tweet.

Here are some other commands that work with TweetMyPC:

lock – locks your windows PC.

physical memory – tells you the physical memory of your PC

ip – lets you know your computer’s IP address

other commands include standby, hibernate, getfiles, kill process e.t.c. You can also use TweetMyPC to download a file on your computer and even setup personal commands. One of my favorite commands is screenshot which will actually take a screenshot of your computer so you can see what is going on. Details about more commands and their usage is included here.

How To Uninstall Adobe Flash Player?

Adobe Flash is one of the most important plugins you can have on your browser, however it is also one of the main culprits that causes most of the browsers to freeze.

If you have recently downloaded the latest update from flash you will not be able to uninstall Adobe Flash from the add/remove program, this is a security measure that has been put in place by Adobe.

However what if you want to uninstall Adobe Flash and install it again? To overcome the barrier Adobe has made available a tool to completely uninstall Adobe Flash Player.

The tool is available for both Windows & Mac OS X, using this tool you can completely uninstall Adobe Flash if it is causing problems for you and then reinstall it again.

You will find the downloads for your OS (Windows/Mac) in this knowledgebase article from Adobe.

Please make sure to close all programs before you uninstall Flash as many applications use Flash and this may cause problem. Thanks Sandip.

How To Completely Remove Tabs From Firefox

If you are one of those few people who find tabs annoying, or who feel that tabbed browsing makes Firefox slower, you will love this tip. You can actually completely turn off tabs in firefox by installing a cool Add-on called Tab Killer.

Tab Killer completely gets rid of tabs so whenever you try to open a new web page it opens in a new window instead of a new tab. You won’t even see the option of Open in new tab any more. It can also be very useful for people who want the features of Firefox but, transitioning from IE or Netscape, cannot get used to the multiple tabs logic. If after a few days you feel the need for tabs again, all you have to do is disable the plugin.

When you try to install Tab Killer, you will see the good old message. “This Add on is for older versions of Firefox”. Don’t worry though! It is exactly for times like these that we showed you how to install incompatible Addons.

Remember that if all you want is to open new pages in a new browser window instead of a new tab, you can always get that setting by going to Tools >> Options >> Tabs.

How To Display Comments In Google Reader

Google Reader is one of the best RSS readers out there, no doubt. The only feature I always wish they had is the ability to include comments along with the content. For example, I will be reading a post from Techcrunch in my Google Reader but I won’t be able to see the comments to that post. For that, I would have to go to the actual website which makes the whole effort a little time-consuming.

The good news is, somebody saw the need and developed an excellent solution to this. gReactions is a Firefox Addon that adds user comments to the post in your Google Reader. Not only that, it also crawls sources like Twitter, Digg, FriendFeed and Reddit, and includes user comments from these sources as well.

Once you install the gReactions Firefox Addon from here, your Google Reader item would show an extra option at the end of every item that would say Show Comments.   Clicking on that would display comments that have been posted in reply to the actual article.

You can filter to see the actual comments to the post or only see the messages on Twitter about that post.

I still don’t think this is a perfect solution since gReactions has a time lag to show all the comments, however, I still think it is an excellent tool to see user reactions to a comment right within your Google Reader.

How To Open Firefox Searches In A New Tab

If you search for something in Firefox, the results are displayed in the same tab by default. Many times when you are doing a search, you don’t want to navigate away from the current page and you would rather get the search results in a new tab. Here’s how to do that in Firefox:

1. In the address bar, type about:config

2. Filter results by typing browser.search.openintab

3. You will see the value set to false

4. Right-click and from the menu choose Toggle

That’s it. As soon as you click on Toggle, the value would be changed to True and your search results would now open in a new tab. This small tip turns out to be quite useful if you do a lot of searches from your browser instead of going to Google or Bing home page.
