I recently released a new Wordpress theme for my blog and tested it out in various browsers. Thanks to all my commentators who pointed out issues and even suggested changes for making the theme better.
The one issue that no one pointed out to me was the transparency issue with my logo image in IE6. The logo image was looking a little weird in IE6 browsers. I could not figure out as to why it was happening but a quick Google search and I came across what the problem was and how to resolve it.
I was reading a nice little post on Lifehack.org about creating strong passwords but decided to share a little trick to create passwords that you can easily remember and are also strong.
The key is to substitute alphabets with either numbers or symbols while you mix cases.Read More
The web world is all about keywords and many people have to write and research on particular topics for which data needs to be gathered from the web. Many bloggers have niche blogs that they run based on various keywords. For example John Chow has a targeted keyword Make money online. For all this you need to research on those keywords so that you have the relevant information before you can write your post or thesis or complete your project.
If you tend to focus on few keywords and waste a lot of time researching on those keywords then here is a simple way in which you can save a lot of time for yourself.Read More
I had recently written a post on how to get your favorite folders in the places bar. But as unhappy I am with the limitations in software I always try to create ways with which things can be accessed easily without having to do much.
The Places Bar has a limitation where you can only have 5 folders at a time. I have nearly 20 folders I open or save files from so that is impossible with to add them to the places bar.Read More
Top Commentators plugin highlights the commentators who comment frequently on your blog. It has been a great plugin to reward regular commentators since wordpress started adding nofollow to commentators website url in regular comments to thwart spammers. Adding nofollow to links tells search engines that they should not be follow it as a part of a link from the current site. Techie Buzz does follow all your comments with a DoFollow plugin.
Coming back even though top commentators plugin allows you to reward regular commentators there are many a sites that I have come across that have the owner of the site featuring in the top commentators section.Read More
You may have come across lots of files which you can open in different software’s. Every file extensions have certain applications they can open in. Some file extensions can open in multiple software’s too, for example a jpg file can open in the default windows photo viewer or Photoshop or a custom software you have chosen.
When you install a software sometimes it is programmed within the installation to set up the software as the default viewer for a particular or multiple extensions. For example if you install Firefox it will set itself as the default viewer for HTM and HTML files. Of course you can disallow this from happening in the advanced options while installing the software or by modifying the options in your favorite software to set it as the default one.Read More
If you use a laptop then you will definitely know the ease of taking your computer around, another added feature is that you may not need to shutdown your computer as frequently you shutdown a desktop. Though the theory about shutting down a desktop can be wrong too.
I have gone with a couple of weeks without shutting down my laptop constantly putting it on hibernate and standby mode. In fact the only time I shut down my laptop is when I really need to when its running really slow or when some updates have been installed.Read More
I am not a Windows Vista user and definitely would not switch to it in near future unless I buy a new laptop. But few of the new features that Windows Vista has are really good and I would definitely like to have few of these in Windows XP.
I just took some time of my break as I could not resist talking about this nice little software that helps you get another feature from Vista.
Windows Vista has a cool little feature where it displays the navigation as a Breadcrumb just like a website does. Clicking on any link will take you to that folder thus making navigating a better experience.Read More
If you are user who collects a lot of pictures from the Internet then you may be quite aware how painful it to navigate and save pictures from the Internet to different folders. If you segregate pictures into different folders then it gets even harder.

Windows users might be quite familiar with File Dialogs that pop up every time you create a new file, open a new file or save a new file. In every File Dialog you can see places that you can save the files to in the left side just by clicking on it. These locations are called Places Bar and contain folders which are easily accessible.Read More
Firefox is a great browser, the ability to extend and customize the browser is one of the many features I love. Firefox allows you to extend your browser using different extensions. If you have a lot of extensions installed then you will be aware that many of them have their own toolbars. Toolbars let you quickly navigate the extension features and are a great addition to the extension.
Even though the extension may be useful to you, you may still not want to use all the features it provides. If you display the toolbars for all the extensions installed it will eat up on your precious screen space making the viewing area smaller. Having many toolbars can easily confuse you too.Read More
I am a command line junkie as it helps me stay productive and move around faster than using a mouse. I try and use the keyboard quite often and familiarize myself with shortcuts that help me save time doing things. Since I began using Linux around 6 years ago I have always tried and made use of its rich set up commands.
This post is about how you can use Linux commands to easily install and update plugins without making use of a visual uploading software like Filezilla or WinSCP.Read More
