How To Migrate Windows Live Spaces to WordPress

Microsoft recently announced that they would be shutting down Windows Live Spaces and moving all users to WordPress.com. If you are a Windows Live Spaces user, Microsoft has made it very easy to move your data elsewhere, so how do you move it to WordPress.com? Take a look at the steps listed below.

Step 1: Login to your Windows Live Spaces account.

Step 2: When you view your Spaces account, you might see a notice which will prompt you to Upgrade your blog, click on the "here" link to start the migration process.

Step 3: Read the information on the page. Once you are done click on the "Get started. Upgrade my blog to WordPress.com!" link. Read the agreement on the next page and click on the "Confirm" button to continue.

  1. I did not like wordpress at all, in fact it was totally useless for my purpose of having a private blog to share with firends and family. In spaces they could all log in with Live ID, but in wordpress they have to have a wordpress account. So I decided to move to blogger/blogspot instead, and I made a migration tool to transfer my old blog. You can read all about it and download the tool/source code here: st185cs.wordpress.com

  2. is it possible to figure out the url of your old live space blog and bring it up using something like the wayback machine?
