Anyone acquainted with migraines knows they are often followed by nausea. In fact, according to a WebMD article, 8 out of 10 people who suffer from migraines report having nausea. A new study published in journal of the Italian Neurological Society may offer some hope of relief from migraine induced nausea.
The study evaluated the efficacy of Sea-Band® wristbands for the relief of migraine induced nausea. Sea-Bands are a simple, yet effective, product that have already been FDA approved for nausea caused by morning sickness, motion sickness, chemotherapy and post-operative nausea. The bands work through the concept of acupressure. The Sea-Band website describes that their product the following way:
A plastic stud incorporated into the wrist band exerts pressure on the P6 acupuncture point situated on the wrist. Pressure on this point is known to relieve nausea and vomiting. The patient simply wears the pair of wrist bands for as long as needed.
40 women were studied who suffered from migraines without aura. “Aura” is a term used to describe the dizziness and visual anomalies that some migraine sufferers see right before the migraine sets in. In the study, the 40 women were treated randomly for a total of six migraine attacks. 3 of the attacks were treated with the Sea-Bands and 3 were without. The intensity of the nausea was rated on a 0-10 scale at 30, 60, 120 and 240 minute intervals. The values were always significantly lower in the phases where the women were being treated with the bands.
“This new research supports what millions of Sea-Band users already know; that the acupressure wristbands provide fast, consistent, drug-free relief for nausea associated with migraine headaches,” commented Leonard Nihan, president, Sea-Band U.S. “We’re pleased to have this published study to reinforce Sea-Band’s efficacy to the scientific and medical communities.”
Hopefully, if you’re one of those who suffer from migraines, this research might possibly lead you to some relief. It is especially encouraging that this is a drug free solution to the problem. For more information about Sea-Bands, visit their website at http://www.sea-band.com/why-seaband.
