I wasn't personally affected simply because I wasn't using Google at the time. But I'm as surprised as anyone. But I shouldn't be, really. As the San Francisco Chronicle put it, “Because of the nature of technology, whether it’s Google's or someone else’s …You’re going to get bitten by the beast.” (as quoted at newsy.com)

@Pallab thanks for letting me know, I may not be aware of when it happened last time, because surprising no matter what services go down, Google.com has always been up for me.

I actually have seen google being down before - though momentarily.
See http://www.pallab.net/2005/11/03/google_is_down/ (a post from 2005).
Also this failure was kind of localised. Most of asia wasnt affected.
Well, I dont really read too much into this. Google does have loads of products and screw ups do happen. Ofcourse when you are google its only natural that they will get a lot of attention.

None of my contacts are show and even when I try to log into chat via gmail, it's the same problem .. Anyone else experiencing the same problem ?
