Trapped in a Mine for Weeks? Here’s a PSP for You!

A mine in Chile collapsed about two weeks ago with 33 miners stuck with rescue some weeks away as the escape shaft is being built. Food and toiletries are being given to the men trapped inside via smaller shafts but how else could you alleviate the loneliness, claustrophobia and general boredom?

How about a PSP? Gaming blog Kotaku reports that along with the supplies, the miners are being given Sony’s PlayStation Portable gaming devices on cups to pass the time. Although the battery conks out in six hours, it’s the overall feeling of goodness that comes with gaming that counts!

Perhaps they will be funneling standby batteries or power cables next?

    I couldn’t imagine being stuck in a mine like that for months. Sending PSP’s down to the trapped miners is a good idea, but yeah the 6 hour battery life will be a major problem. Is it just me or does anyone else get annoyed that all coverage of this accident is all people smiling? Sure it’s great that these miners are still alive, but they’re still stuck in a mine for months.

      I find it quite weird myself! It’s a very good suggestion, but I don’t think it’s going to get much use, as you said. Nevertheless it’s not going to hamper rescue efforts in any way and if the miners get some recreational use out of it, it’s all for the best right?

        I agree.. when you’re stuck for so long in such a dank and claustrophic place, every little bit of relief helps. So it’s definitely all for the best in a bad situation to send down PSP’s for some entertainment.
