Sony PS3 Manufacturing Costs Have Dropped By 70%

In a conference call on 31st July, 09, chief financial officer of Sony Corp., Nobuyuki Ondea said that there Sony PS3 Manufacturing costs have dropped by 70% from the time it was launched to the public in the year 2006. Back in 2006 when Sony had launched the PS3, it was a known fact that Sony was facing huge losses on each PS3 sold. Back then Sony used to lose up to 306$ and 241$ on the 60Gb and the 20Gb Model of PlayStation 3. Nobuyuki Ondea did not mention the exact current manufacturing cost of production of PS3 but he did say that the manufacturing costs have gone down by roughly 70%

“The cost reduction since we introduced the PS3 is very substantial and this is on schedule. We do not disclose how much of the PS3, specifically, the cost reduction was achieved during the past two years, but that is on schedule,”  – said Nobuyuki Ondea during the conference
