AMD To Slash Prices Of HD48xx Series Next Month

AMD is expected to announce a price cut next month on the HD 48xx Graphics Card series line-up. The price cut is expected to be upto 50$, thanks to the lower manufacturing costs. The Price cuts arrives before AMD is expected to launch their new Dx11 series of Graphics Card line up during the coming Summer.

Thanks to the price cut, the Price of the High-End HD4890 will go down from 249$ to 199$ while the HD4870 will retail for 149$ down from its current price of 199$. The price cut helps push the HD4850 in the <100$ range and thus making it compete with HD4770, nVidia 9xxx series. The Price Cut on HD4850 will help AMD make the HD4850 act as a subsitutue for HD4770 which is currently selling like hot cakes in the market.

It looks like AMD is trying to finish the left over stock of the HD48xx series which they have before they launch the new HD5xxx Dx11 Capable Graphics Card in the market. The 50$ price cut makes the HD 48xx price very tempting and many people who already own the HD48xx series will go in for Crossfire for a better gaming performance.

Asus, Gigabyte Demo’s SATA-600 and USB 3.0 ready motherboards.

Asus during CeBIT 2009 showcased the motherboard P6X58 which had SATA-600 interface. Reports says that the same motherboard i.e. Asus P6X58 which is based on the Intel X58 Chipset was equipped with a USB 3.0 Controller manufactured by NEC. Gigabyte also showcased a motherboard which was equipped with SATA- 600 and USB 3.0 interface and was based on the Intel P55 Chipset.

Insiders say that some of the motherboard manufacturer’s are apprehensive to shift to SATA-600 Controllers because of the limited speed of PCI x1 Interface and compatibility woes. The first generation PCI interface have a speed limit of 250MB/sec which along with the fact that there is no SATA-600 compatible Hard Disk on the market make the motherboard manufacturer’s apprehensive to shift to it.

AMD Unveils the Athlon II X2 250 and Phenom II X2 550 Dual Core Processors

Looks like AMD is on a roll here, after yesterday’s announcement of the IstanbulOpteron Processor’s and ATI Radeon E4690, AMD today launched 2 new Dual Core CPU’s to take on Intel the Athlon II X2 250 and the Phenom II X2 550. The Athlon II X2 Processor is based on 45nm fabrication and has a TDP of 65W, down 30W from its predecessor 65nm Athlon family of CPU’s. The CPU features 2 cores running at 3GHz each and will feature 2MB of L2 cache, but there will be no L3 cache so as to differentiate the Athlon series of Processor from the Phenom branded Processor’s.
The Phenom II X2 550 Dual Core Processor has 2 Cores running at 3.1GHz each and it features an unlocked multiplier so as to facilitate overclocking and has an 80W TDP. The Phenom II X2 550 Processor features 512KB of L2 cache for each core and a 6Mb L3 cache. Both the processor’s support both DDR2 RAM’s when coupled with an AM2+ Motherboard and DDR3 RAM’s when used with an AM3 compatible Motherboard. AMD enabled the backward compatibility between AM2, AM2+ and AM3 sockets so as to keep the cost of upgrading down for its users. People who already own AM2+ Motherboards just need to update their BIOS before they can start using these processors. AMD has priced these processors to fight against Intel E4500 and E7400 respectively. The AMD Athlon II X2 250 processor’s OEM price is 87$ while the Phenom II X2 550 OEM price is 102$.

AMD is also slated to launch the Phenom II X2 545 later this month which will have a TDP of 70W.

AMD announces a new Integrated GPU called ‘E4690′

ati_logoAMD today along with the announcement of AMD Istanbul’ Server Class Processor’s also announced a new integrated GPU dubbed ATI Radeon E4690. The ATI Radeon is the first Integrated GPU in the world to support Dx 10.1 and OpenGL 3.0. The GPU has a memory of 512Mb running at 700 MHz GDDR3 and the memory interface is 128bit along with 320 shader processors. The GPU is built on the 55nm fabrication process and has inbuilt support for Display Port, and also supports Shader model v4.0 and UVD 2.0.

ATI Radeon E4690 when publically available will be the fastest ever Integrated GPU which nearly matches the performance of a discrete GPU. The ATI Radeon E4690 sets a new bar for embedded graphics performance. Blazingly fast graphics and HD video capabilities enhance the appeal of applications − such as arcade, casino, digital signage and more. With the industry’s only embedded graphics chip that offers DirectX 10.1 and UVD 2.0 support, the ATI Radeon E4690 enables competitive advantages for AMD’s embedded customers, said Richard Jaenicke, director of integrated graphics at Advanced Micro Devices a.k.a AMD.

AMD “Istanbul” makes its debut earlier than expected

AMD today announced the availability of AMD IstanbulOpteron Processor’s by this week end. AMD IstanbulProcessor’s are 6-Core High end x86 Processor’s designed for Server Use. AMD’s IstanbulProcessor’s are based on AMD’s 45nm Quad Core Shangaiarchitecture. The new Processor’s are also equipped with a new technology called HT Assist’ which helps in significantly improving I/O performance by reducing the traffic generated by the processors in seeking the shortest path to the data. In layman language it means that HT assist keeps a track of the data present in the caches of CPU, Memory, and Hard disk and directly points the Core to the Data it needs, instead of allowing the processor to search for the data.

AMD Istanbulprocessors use the same socket which Shangaiuses i.e. Socket 1207. AMD reports that the Istanbulprocessors will give a 30% increase in performance per watt with an overall performance improvement of 40 to 50%. AMD also said that they beat their expectations in launching the Istanbulprocessors. AMD launched Istanbulprocessors way before Intel is expected to launch their new Nehalem Ex based CPU’s.

We hope that this new AMD Processor is free from bugs which plagued the launch of AMD Phenom Processors.

Dell kills the XPS series of laptops, launches new Alienware M17x Notebook

Last Year when Dell acquired Alienware it said that it won’t be killing the XPS line-up, but contradictory to their statement, Dell today finally killed the XPS line-up as far its related to powerful gaming notebooks, and also announced the All PowerfulAlienware M17x laptop which lives up to its tagline of All Powerful. The base configuration of the notebook features a GTX260M which can be 28-alienware-in1upgraded to Dual GTX280M for some serious gaming horsepower. The notebook by default comes with an Nvidia 9400M G1 GPU which takes advantage of the Hybrid Power technology and helps in providing better battery life. Essentially it means that the notebook switches to 9400M G1 instead of the Monster’s Mobile GPU when are not doing any GPU intensive task. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to the Processor for this notebook with options ranging from Core 2 Duo to Core 2 Quad Extreme. You can also increase the RAM of the notebook to a maximum of 8GB.
A 1TB HDD or a 512MB SSD available in Raid 0/1 handles all your storage need. The inbuilt slot-loading Optical Drive also comes with a Blu-Ray option.
