Nvidia has officially unveiled the world’s fastest DirectX11 GPU’ the GeForce GTX 580. The GTX 580 sports 512 CUDA cores, 64 SPUs (Special Function Units) and has 1.5GB of memory. The core of the card is clocked at 772 MHz and the Shader core is clocked at 1.5GHz, while the memory is clocked at 4 GHz.
Even though the clock speed and the number of cores have been bumped up, the TDP of the GTX580 is still 6 Watts less than the GTX480 (250W). Nvidia also claims that the GTX580 will run cooler than its predecessor thanks to a new vapor-chamber cooler. The card also supports quad-SLI for phenomenal performance. Early reviews suggest that the card is 15-20% faster than its predecessor.
The card is already available on all major retail stores and should officially retail for $550.
