A lot of Android tablets are slated to hit the market by the end of 2010. LG’s Marketing VP, Chang Ma, said in a WSJ interview today that LG will be launching an Android tablet too, under the Optimus line of devices. The LG Optimus tablet should be available by Q4 2010.
LG hasn’t had much luck in mobiles yet; almost all its Android smartphones have fallen flat on their faces.
Mr. Ma said that LG is taking a very different approach for its tablet. While the iPad is focused on media consumption, LG’s tablet will focus more on content creation and productivity applications.
“Our tablet will be better than the iPad. It’s going to be surprisingly productive.” Mr. Ma stated.
That’s a very bold statement considering LG hasn’t even figured out their mobile strategy yet. Hopefully, LG will deliver on its promise and we will get to see some good competition to the iPad soon.
LG is also on track to release 10 new Android smartphones by the end of the year. Some of them will run on Nvidia’s new Tegra 2 platform.
