Will Somebody Find my iPhone!
By on March 29th, 2011

A brand new iPhone app has recently hits the streets claiming to utilize the inbuilt GPS signal to help locate a missing iPhone. Not just a powerful mobile device with an abundance of features, an iPhone with the installed Find my iPhone app can be turned into its own discreet tracking device.

A great example of the app in everyday use comes from the UK and a college student named James Bird. After leaving his iPhone on the desk in a lecture and only momentarily glancing away, the phone was stolen. Fortunately for James, he had earlier installed the tracking device on his iPhone 4. After asking a friend whom also owned an iPhone to begin to track the GPS signal being emitted from the stolen iPhone, he quickly identified its location.

The stolen phone had since made its way out of the university campus and by using the directions being relayed over a spare cell phone, James gave chase, finally tracking the source of the GPS signal to a nearby bus stop. When challenged, the offender refused to admit he possessed the iPhone. However, the bus driver refused to drive away until the situation had been cleared up. At this point, the thief gave up the item and quickly fled the scene.

Through another piece of good luck, a nearby Policeman hailed down by James, quickly apprehended the thief and read him his rights.

We can clearly chalk this crime busting success up to the Find my iPhone app, which is available free for download on the iTunes website. The app has some positive user reviews and will undoubtedly become a most downloaded’ app in the near future.
