Tr.Im Closes, Uhm Opens Back Again
By on August 12th, 2009

There was a lot of hue over the announcement of tr.im the semi-popular URL shortening service to close down few days back, the major problems many saw with the closure was that, all the links that were shortened using tr.im would disappear forever, making hundreds of thousands if not millions of links go bust.

However one thing is for sure that the popularity of tr.im grew immensely after that announcement and they have now decided to resurrect the service and run it indefinitely.

We have restored tr.im, and re-opened its website. We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the popular response, and the countless public and private appeals I have received to keep tr.im alive.

We have answered those pleas. Nambu will keep tr.im operating going forward, indefinitely, while we continue to consider our options in regards to tr.im’s future.

One of the major causes of tr.im deciding to close down was because started giving preferential treatment to bit.ly another URL shortening service, which according to tr.im creates a monopoly.

Now it’s time to wait and watch which other URL shorteners decide to take the plunge to popularity.
