Most of the times I do not remember my friend’s birthdays, but social networking sites come in handy, since they alert me about upcoming birthdays of friends and family. However logging into each and every social networking service to check my friend’s birthday is out of the question.

Orkut one of the most popular social networking service in India, also includes a feature, that shows you the upcoming birthdays of your friends, but like always we have other priorities which may not allow us to login each and every day to check for upcoming birthdays.

However since I use Google Calendar quite often and synchronize events with Outlook along with making use of a handy gadget that allows me to access Google Calendar on the Desktop, it would be pretty decent if I could import all the upcoming birthdays into it.

Turns out my wish has come true as the Orkut Blog announced today, that users can now import all the upcoming birthdays into their Google Calendar account. To add the upcoming birthday’s calendar to your Google Calendar account and start receiving Birthday Reminders as SMS alerts, you will need to follow the steps given below.

Step 1: Login to your Orkut account

Step 2: In the upcoming birthdays section, click on the link which says “view your friends’ birthdays in Google Calendar”

Step 3: Login to your Google Calendar account if prompted.

Step 4: You will now see all your friends birthdays in Google Calendar, to setup to receive Birthday Reminders as SMS alerts, read our tutorial on Getting SMS Alerts for Calendar Events.
