went live with the new lists feature just 2 days back, we also did a tutorial on how to create lists on twitter. However, it looks like many of you don’t need that tutorial.

According to a pretty complex search query on Google, created by Amit Agarwal from Digital Inspiration, twitter users have already created more than 6.5 million lists.

The number of lists definitely show how popular twitter has become. Makes me wonder, why they took so long to get out with this feature? Thanks @labnol.

Unfortunately, that looks like a pretty unreliable method. After the weekend, that number is down to 4.5m :(

@Marshall I agree, maybe Google pruned some results or they just became private lists. However, unless Twitter comes up with some numbers it is all speculation.

Note: We discourage users from using keywords in their names while posting comments, most of them get caught by spam, also it really would be more fruitful in knowing people who comment by their real name, rather than by using a name no one relates to. In future we reserve the right to delete comments from users using a name other than their own.
