What else could be a phone used for? A record breaking result? Well, it has already. Using a Nokia N8, Sumo Science and Aardman hold a Guinness Record for creating the largest stop-motion set stretching over 11,000 square feet of Welsh sand.

Stop motion is an animation technique or a cinematic process that is used to makes static objects appear as if they were moving. The technique is generally used in clay-animation. It works by moving objects slightly and shooting it in different frames. When you playback the frames, the illusion of fluid motion is created and the objects appear to move by themselves.

The short film titled, Gulp, tells a simple story of a fisherman going about his daily catches and gets swallowed by a larger predator. Shot on location at Pendine Beach in South Wales, every frame of this stop-motion animation was shot using a Nokia N8, with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics. The film has broken a world record for the “largest stop-motion animation set”, with the largest scene stretching over 11,000 square feet.

Co-director Will Studd said: “The film was a huge test of planning and coordination with mother nature. We were incredibly lucky with conditions and tide times sometimes we got our final frame for the day just as the waves crashed in around our set.”

Earlier in  August 2010, Nokia hired Aardman to create the world’s smallest stop-frame animation. The film was shot using a Nokia N8 with a macro lens.

Apple has released a new iPad 2 commercial entitled “Now” that highlights more on user experience rather than hardware specs. This 30 second video clip showcases how users can use iPad to watch movies, read magazines, newspapers and video call using FaceTime.

Now, we can watch a newspaper; listen to a magazine; curl up with a movie; and see a phone call.
Now, we can take a classroom anywhere; hold an entire bookstore; and touch the stars.

Apple’s competitors emphasize more on technical specifications, but Apple has decided to take a different route. They are working completely on a different strategy to market their products by highlighting more on user experience. This commercial is simple and to the point, and does not amplify on technical specifications.

Who said guns are only used to kill people? They can play music too! That’s what designer César López did with an old decommissioned AK-47. He turned it into a electric guitar and plays them on the streets of Bogota.

The instrument is called as Escopetarra, a combination of the Spanish terms “rifle” (escopeta) and guitar (guitarra). López does not sell any of his creations nor receives money from his music, rather he expects listenrs to take away his words, “in the end the gun dies and the guitar is born”

Reuse, Reduce, Recycle.

Angry Birds has been a phenomenal success for the folks behind Rovio Mobiles. The game is available on almost all smartphone devices including iPhone, Android and Symbian along with a PC edition. It will also be coming to Windows Phone 7 devices soon.

So what is the next step for Angry Birds? More platforms? That may happen, but before that this popular game will be featured in a movie called Angry Birds: The Movie.

Based on a EU judgment, Microsoft recently rolled out the browser ballot system in European countries, however, they are not the one’s to let up on the market share that easy, and have rolled out a series of new advertisements in the United Kingdom to keep users hooked on to Internet Explorer 8.

I did find some of the commercial videos on My Microsoft Life. These videos are only 8 seconds in length, so I was wondering what Microsoft was thinking about them.

I understand that it is a webmasters goal to load webpages in 8 seconds or less, but that is because they want users to start reading the content in that time, not understanding it. So Microsoft’s thinking in these 8 second ads goes beyond me, even though I understand that it is in theme with "Internet Explorer 8", I found the 30 second Google Super Bowl ad more interesting.

Techmeme is no doubt every Tech Pundit’s resource for the best technology news. However, getting on Techmeme is not a easy job and it is really hard to figure out a algorithm which will get you on it.
