VLMC: Free Video Editing Software from VLC Coming Soon [Leaked Pics]

The Creators of the famous cross-platform VLC media player, are going to release a new video editing program named VideoLAN Movie Creator (VLMC).

On the VLMC home page it states:

VLMC will be available very soon in a pre-release version for Linux, Windows and Mac, stay tuned !

The official announcement of VLMC will take place at the VideoLAN dev’days 2009 in December.
Once the pre-release of VLMC is out, there will be full instructions on how to install it, and we will have all the details. Until then, you can fetch the current working tree using Git:

git clone git://github.com/VLMC/vlmc.git

What we know upto this point:

VLMC will be a free video editing software program, which will offer features that allow you to make professional quality movies. It will be as user-friendly and simple, as the original VLC media player.

In the past we have told you about several ways to download videos from most of the popular sites like YouTube, MegaVideo, Hulu and more. Most of these websites make use of Flash to display the videos to users to make it easier to stream over the internet.

Moyea Free Flash Downloader is a handy SWF downloader which can easily download SWF flash files and flash games from Internet. The software also provides you with a option to preview the flash files within their interface.

To download videos using this software, just click copy and paste the URL of the video or game into the input box and click on the Go button. The software will scan the page for SWF Flash files and allow you to download it to your PC.

Once the page has been scanned you can download all the files you want by selecting the SWF files and clicking on the Download SWF button.

Techie Buzz Verdict

Does a good job of detecting flash files on a webpage and allows you to easily download both videos and games. However, the SWF format is pretty inconvenient and the conversion menu in the software leads you to download a paid software.

There are several other software, which allow you to both download and convert videos for free, so they could include a basic video converter to at-least convert the files to FLV and AVI format.

In addition to that the previews takes up a lot of CPU and memory, sometimes hanging the PC. The software could also do with a stop button to stop scanning webpages, this can come in handy when there are too many flash objects on a webpage and you want to stop in between.

Upload MP3 Files to YouTube

YouTube is a great place to upload and watch videos and listen to music, but by default YouTube does not allow you to upload MP3 files.

Like always there are workarounds for every problem in this case a new service called called MP3 2 Tube will allow you to upload MP3 files to YouTube.

Using this service you can upload any MP3 files to YouTube. You can also add a background image that will be displayed while playing the video.

The service allows you to upload videos directly to your account by using Google Sub Auth API to communicate with YouTube.

MP3 2 YouTube converts the MP3 files to FLV video so that it can upload it to YouTube.

YouTube 3D Videos

3D videos are fun to watch, but experiencing 3D videos have been mostly isolated to theatres till now. The popular video sharing website YouTube is experimenting with 3D videos, which will allow users to view videos in 3D on their PCs using a stereoscopic player.

Visiting this experimental video on YouTube, shows users additional options that are not usually associated with YouTube videos.

The additional options allow users to change the 3D view style and view the video, the changes are applied instantly without breaking the viewing experience.

There are several tags available to create 3D videos for YouTube, which include;

yt3d:enable=true Enables the view mode.
yt3d:aspect=3:4 Sets the aspect of the encoded video.
yt3d:swap=true Swaps the left and right sources. You may need to add this to videos when the player with fixed anaglyph modes ships.
yt3d:left=0_0.1_0.5_0.9 and yt3d:right=0.5_0.1_1_0.9 These tags are very provisional and most useful for fixing up old videos. They set the source area for each eye as pairs of coordinates x1_y1_x2_y2. The scale of these coordinates is 0,0 for the the top left down to 1,1 for the bottom right.

This feature was developed by a Google employee as his 20% project, and was spotted by Search Engine Roundtable in a YouTube Help forum topic.

Detect and Install Missing Codecs with CodecInstaller

Codec related issues are something most of us are familiar with. Most of us have had experiences in the past where a media file refused to play due to a missing codec. An even trickier problem than missing codecs is the problem of codec conflicts which often occurs due to conflicting codecs being installed at the same time.

CodecInstaller analyses a video file and automatically suggests missing codec. Perhaps more crucially CodecInstaller is also capable of recording which codecs are utilised to play a video file on your system. This can quickly help you diagnose any codec conflict errors.

CodecInstaller utility has three components:

Installed Codecs Viewer which displays all installed audio, video codecs and filters installed on your system.
File Analyser which analyses a video file to detect the codecs required to play it. Currently it supports it supports avi, mpeg, wmv, wma, ogg, flac, mpc, mp3, mp4, wav and wx files. Quicktime and Matroska (mkv/mka) containers aren’t supported, which is slightly disappointing. If this is something you require take a look at VideoInspector.
Common Codecs Installer contains a list of commonly used codecs which you should install on your system. It provides basic information on each of the codecs along with installation status and download links.

CodecInstaller automatically attempts to install the Crawler Toolbar during installation. Be careful not to install the toolbar along with CodecInstaller. Other than this CodecInstaller worked as advertised and we found little to complain about. CodecInstaller is not something you will use regularly. However, it is a tool which may come in handy on occasions and is something everyone should have in their collection.
