TwittMyFile is a handy application, which will allow you to upload and share files on twitter using FileSocial. We had earlier covered the FileSocial service to share files on twitter.

TwittMyFile provides users with an easy drag and drop interface for uploading files to FileSocial. Once the file has been uploaded, you can add a short message and share the link to the file on Twitter.

To stem the flow of users moving to other social networking sites and keep them with Orkut, Google has announced some sweeping changes. Orkut has been rebuilt using Google Web Toolkit, which means that you have fewer pages to browse, and will also get a faster browsing experience.

In addition to that, Orkut has also created a much cleaner interface which now has larger pictures, easier to access notifications, targeted friend suggestions, and key updates closer to the top of your homepage.

Orkut themes have been quite a rage. We have listed tons of Orkut themes in the past and have even created some Orkut themes for Christmas. However, now Orkut has added personalization options where you can choose from an array of colors to suit your personality.

As with most Google products, you will be required to get an invite to use the newer interface, to get an invite you will have to visit Google Docs to fill out the new Orkut interface invite form. In addition to that, you can also request your friends who already have the new interface to send you an invite.

But what about notifications and alerts? Turns out there is a desktop app for that. The Facebook Notifications application, will notify you whenever there is a new notification for your profile. This includes, new friend requests, pokes, event invites, group invites and unread messages.

The app also adds a transparent notification window on the desktop, and shows you a system tray notification, whenever you have new updates in your account.

You can also update your Facebook status using the application. By default the application is set to refresh every 30 seconds, you can change the refresh rate by visiting the settings window of the application.

Ironically, the Facebook Notifications application does not notify you about “actual notifications in Facebook”, which is shown to you in the right hand bottom corner in your profile, whenever someone comments or likes your posts.

This is a definite dampener. In addition to that, it would be good if the developer adds a dropdown to choose the refresh rate for the app. I mean, why would you want to use a calculator to find out how many seconds are there in 2 hours and 33 minutes, if you want to use it as a refresh rate?

The application does provide you with a quick way to visit your profile and compose messages to your Facebook friends. Install the app if you are a heavy Facebook user, who wants to instantly reply back to events or approve new friend requests.

Twitter’s database has been hammered consistently, whenever something out of the blue has happened. Take for example, the Iran controversy, the balloon boy controversy, Mumbai terrorist attacks and the Hudson river plane landing.

The service though, hasn’t been without its share of downtimes. The downtimes are pretty less compared to when I actually started using twitter, but they still happen pretty often. And when they do happen, the one phrase you might hear from most twitter users on Facebook and Friendfeed is “sigh, twitter is down”.

The 5 billionth tweet contains the text “Oh lord”, we are pretty sure that most of the guys behind twitter might be using this phrase in astonishment, when they passed this milestone. As for me, I am nearing a milestone on twitter of a meager 20000 tweets .

Kudos to the entire twitter team on this milestone, we hope that you keep providing us with a awesome service, that has practically made instant messaging a outdated form of communication.

Adobe has released another app based on Adobe Air, which will allow you to upload photos from your desktop to Facebook. The best part about this app is that, you can also view and browse your Facebook wall and friends profile from within the app. You can also reply and comment to your friends posts.

Once you have downloaded and installed the application, you will need to login and give permissions to the application to upload photos to your Facebook profile. Once you have given all the permissions, you will be logged into your profile, from where you can browse your timeline, comment and like posts from friends and more.

Uploading photos to Facebook is pretty easy. Click on the Upload tab in the menubar, and choose the album you want to upload the photos to. You can also create new albums using the app.

Adding photos to your album is pretty easy. Click on the “Add Photos” button, it will show you a browse file dialog. Choose the photos you want to add to the album and click on Ok. You can choose multiple photos at once. Using the photo Uploader, you can also add captions to your photos.

Once you have chosen all the photos, click on the green arrow in the right hand side to upload the images to your Facebook profile. The upload should take a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the number of images you are uploading.

This app is a definite timesaver. We highly recommend it, if you frequently upload photos to your Facebook profile. Since Adobe Air works on multiple platforms, you can use it to upload images from Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

Earlier, reporting spam was a pain, as you had to send a message to the twitter spam team (@spam) and include the twitter handle of the spammer. However, twitter has now introduced a new feature, using which users can report a spam user to twitter, directly from the spammers profile.

To report a user as spam, just visit their profile and click on the “report username for spam” link. Clicking on the link should popup a Javascript alert. Click on the Ok button to confirm and report the user as a spam. Clicking this link will also block this user from sending messages to you.

This is a definite improvement, in helping twitter and their users, clean the ecosystem of these scumbags. However, we still believe that twitter has a long way before they can be spam-free, one of the reasons why we still think that Twitter is turning into a spammers paradise.

Many other users with profile pictures too have been sporting those avatars, but that is due to a technical problem on twitter’s end.

The new twitter birds avatar are available in 6 different colors and are randomly chosen for different profiles.

Turns out that Facebook has put that to some good use and users can now sign in to Facebook using that username too. The username is the username that forms the part of your profile URL that you have manually setup as.

For example my vanity URL is http://faceboo.com/keithdsouza in this case my new username is keithdsouza.

Though this may not be a big change it can definitely come in useful and handy to people with long email addresses. You will still be able to login using your email address too.
